Repairing Boat Floor Plywood

Once you are confident that the rotten sections have been removed you can start to repair the floor as needed. When the resin has dried you may wish to smooth off any rough edges with a soft sander. The counter posed grains and strong inter sheet adhesive give this manufactured wood material its strength and resistance to warping. If you have the means and resources to remove a piece of the boat floor and replace it then that is the best thing you can do for the boat.

Plywood can be repaired if the damaged area is not extensive. This was located underneath a faux teak floor meaning that it is most likely the original plywood used to build the floor of the boat. Plywood is made with layers of wood veneer laid with the grains at approximately right angles and then glued together. Reconnect the electrical wires and water lines below deck.

Note that even though the plywood has been snapped and left exposed to rain and wind it still holds its integrity. Drill screw holes in the dried fiberglass mat. If the stringers and bulkheads are rotten get them replaced with fiberglass ones. Place the damaged cutout section of the floor on a piece of marine plywood and mark the outline of the piece.
