Wear protective gloves when cleaning the carpet with toxic chemicals to protect your hands. Prepare a wet stain for removal if possible it is best to clean paint spills as soon as they happen. Another option is to use a dishwashing soap and water solution to treat the paint stain. If the paint stain is dry use hot water and a little bit of dish detergent.

Wipe the edge of your putty knife with a clean rag often as you lift away old paint. Dab a cloth in acetone hydrogen peroxide or paint thinner and blot the stain to remove the paint.
