If the risk of damage is too great to attack the residue with a scraper the other option is to apply a solvent to break down the adhesive properties so you can wipe the residue off. Then go around over and over carefully lifting the dry glue from the vinyl. When you stick tape onto vinyl it often peels off with ease but you typically are left with a sticky residue from the tape adhesive. Aside from that prepare a surface that you ll place the vinyl record on.

Scrape the sticky tape from the vinyl using a putty knife. This film collects dirt and causes your vinyl surface to look dingy and discolored. Gently move your thumb along the outer rim of the record to lift the glue. You can go in.

Remove adhesive with goo gone. Place the tip of your wood glue at the edge of your inner label and squeeze the bottle with light pressure. Use a dry rag or cloth to gradually loosen the residue. You may need to use a flat straight edge such as a plastic scraper or old credit card to lift the adhesive from the vinyl.

Use soft cloth soaked with goo gone. Apply the vinegar to the affected area of the vinyl surface and allow it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the adhesive. As the record spins continue squeezing out the glue so it creates lines around your record. Apply wood glue over the entire record as it spins on your turntable.

Remove all loosened sticky tape from the vinyl. Standard titebond ii peel detailed elsewhere. Stop when you reach the outer edge. This prevents me from having to worry whether i spill wood glue anywhere and whether i scratch the bottom surface of the record.

So my recommendation is the following to minimize solvent vinyl contact. Place the putty knife under an edge of the tape and begin to push the tape loose. Tape sticks strongly to a variety of surfaces including vinyl. Helped a little but less than i hoped.

Remove tape residue from vinyl with white vinegar. You want to make sure that you remove it all in one piece if you see it ripping just slow down and be more careful.
