The picture shows one of mine posing with my watch.
Really big bed bug.
They don t jump or fly but they can move pretty fast.
On average though they appear about the size of an apple seed.
A bed bug that has eaten a blood meal will be bigger than a regular one.
Their flat wide bodies look significantly bigger after they ve taken a blood meal so a bed bug s actual size varies depending on whether the pests have fed.
The adult insects have a flat body shape compared to the nymphs especially after they feed.
Bed bug bites are very painful and itchy and are often mistaken for mosquito bites or pimples.
Once engorged the pest s body expands into a longer more cylindrical shape.
They also can look very different from person to person which is another reason why they can be so hard to diagnose.
I also learned that once you find out you have bed bugs they are very costly to get rid of upwards of 1500.
Unfortunately there are plenty of bugs mistaken for bed bugs and you need to know which is which.
Typically bed bug nymphs will be smaller than a fully fed adult bed bug.
About the size of an apple seed bedbugs hide in the cracks and crevices of beds box springs headboards bed frames and any other objects around a bed.
Being flat they can hide in the smallest of cracks behind wallpaper in the joints of the bed frame or their favourite in the buttons and seams of the mattress.
If you believe that your home has fallen victim to a bed bug infestation it may be time to conduct some research to make sure that the little critters really are bed bugs.
